No doubt throughout your life you have heard someone say, 'What an amazing experience," when speaking about a restaurant they’ve been to perhaps, or even a holiday destination. To them, they’ve discovered a gem, and they are eager to share their excitement with everyone they know.
At CAE, we are proud to share our excitement about our “gems,” our employees, who day in and day out are actively dedicated to supporting our organization’s mission, and, who through encouraging a positive and collaborative workplace culture, care about and inspire one another to achieve success.
CAE’s employees are engaged in a wide range of disciplines across many departments, including engineering, flight instruction, business development, finance, cybersecurity, IT, manufacturing, marketing, and more. With so many areas of the business to discover, this gives us an amazing opportunity to highlight the work specific groups do.
In this article, we are thrilled to feature one group in particular at CAE, the Instructional Systems Group (ISG) located at CAE Arlington, TX. The ISG thrives on diverse talents in the world of visual content development. The team is comprised of graphic designers, 3D artists, illustrators, animators, audio/visual producers, and software developers who all play an integral part in the work that is produced. “CAE’s investment in my growth, mentorship, and belief in my capabilities propelled me to become a Program Manager —a journey that began three years ago.” Kimberly continues.
We recently sat down with one of the team, Kayla Mosley, a Multimedia Technical Lead, to gain a more in-depth understanding of the group’s role within the business as well as learn about Kayla’s career journey at CAE.
CAE’s ISG team creates and builds for Level 1 – Level 3 Interactive Media Instruction (IMI) courseware used in training fixed and rotary-wing pilots. The ISG also supports the surge efforts for CAE’s customers throughout the year as well as supporting CAE’s internal teams and events such as at I/ITSEC 2023 where the team was called upon to develop a “DNA” model to showcase CAE’s Learning Ecosystem.
“Our ISG team are all creative and open-minded, we like to hear each other’s opinions and thoughts. The team as a whole works really hard day in and day out to reach the goals set by programs. We work well together through difficult times and the team is willing to do the tough stuff and still have a smile on their face when doing so! I appreciate every one of them and what they bring to the table,” says Kayla Mosley
Kayla’s career at CAE began just over eight years ago as a Multimedia Developer within ISG and since then her career has grown as she was tasked to lead projects with increasing levels of responsibility. It was while having the opportunity to lead larger projects Kayla’s ambition and capabilities inspired her to pursue a leadership role and she was later appointed Multimedia Technical Lead for ISG.
Kayla enjoys sharing her knowledge and being able to assist others, and she loves to answer people’s questions and help them learn new things. By gaining confidence and knowledge at CAE by receiving timely feedback, she fostered her learning and development. She continued her education by participating in the Ambition Challenge and she enrolled in CAE’s mentor program where she had the opportunity to have a rewarding mentorship with Marissa Holdorf, Vice President of Human Resources for CAE Defense & Security.
CAE’s culture and collaborative team spirit have also played an important part in Kayla’s work life. This spirit was never more apparent when two years into her journey at CAE she had to have her spine fused. CAE supported her time off to enable a full recovery, however, what was heartwarming to Kayla, was her team’s support on her return to work. At that time, she could only wear slippers to work due to nerve damage, so the team rallied together to give her the best return possible, and they all wore slippers to work that first day. With many more memorable moments such as team bonding bowling, 4th July BBQs, watching the eclipse together (2017), Thanksgiving potlucks, Christmas parties, and so many more, there is a strong sense of camaraderie within her group that underpins their success as a team.
Before ending our discussion with Kayla, we asked her for one last piece of advice that she would give to someone considering a career with CAE, here is what she had to say, “I would tell them that they need to be willing to learn new things, look outside of their department roles to see how they can serve both the customer and the teams(s) in which they interact with. Be willing to think outside of the box to gain efficiencies and be flexible with your time and daily focus on tasks. As my boss told me, “We need to be fluid like water” – things change daily, and we must be able to adapt to those changes quickly.”
